It's quite possible that in an alternate universe, the Poppies are hugely wealthy and ridiculously famous for doing what so few had done in the late '80s: fusing hip-hop, House and other beat-laden, drum machine-generated styles with alternative music. They coined the word "grebo" to describe this merger; somehow when you hear the music you realize the word fits perfectly. Their stance was so sleazy and so arrogant, they'd have had a great time with all the money they could have made -- but it wasn't to be. Nonetheless, listening to their ground-breaking album This Is the Day...This Is the Hour...This Is This! is as fun as being locked in a room with a bunch of pint-guzzling, bird-shagging, sample-crazy, beat-frenzied lunatics. Only safer, because they're not actually there when you listen to the album.
