Miles Davis All Stars is not a band but a generic band name used for releases by different Miles Davis combos including high profiled sidemen. Like with Miles Davis's Quintet's, Sextet's, Nonet's and other combo's, the musicians playing under the name varies a lot. Below is a list of examples of the use of the All Star band name. This list may not be complete: 1947: The Miles Davis' All Stars were credited in the Savoy sessionography for an august 14th session including Miles Davis (tp) Charlie Parker (ts) John Lewis (p) Nelson Boyd (b) and Max Roach (d). Tracks from the session was released under several name variations, including Miles Davis and Charlie Parker - but none as by The Miles Davis All Stars. 1950: A session was held june 30th under the name Miles Davis' Birdland All Stars. Musicians were: Miles Davis (tp) Fats Navarro (tp) J.J. Johnson (tb) Brew Moore (ts) Tadd Dameron (p) Curly Russell (b) Art Blakey (d). Tracks were released under the name: Miles Davis All Stars And Gil Evans. 1952: On may 2nd and May 3rd a recording was made at Birdland, NYC, with The Miles Davis Sextet.
