If it weren't for his contractual problems, Washington would be an even bigger star than he already is. At times his robust vocals hearken back to the glory days of Luther Vandross (are they over?), but Washington's sound has a stylistic feel all his own. His 1998 album KW added hip-hop and Neo-Soul flavors to the Contemporary R&B feel that he'd established on modern classics such as Make Time For Love (1991) and You Make it Easy (1993). What sets Washington apart from many of his peers is a confident, mature and powerful vocal style which is destined to give us more good music as the years go by.
