Like his sometime lyricist, Johnny Mercer, Warren wanted a career writing for Broadway shows. They didn't want him, but Broadway's loss was Hollywood's gain. One of the best, Warren brought jazz rhythms and hooks to movie songs. Such standards as "The Boulevard of Broken Dreams," "September in the Rain," and "42nd Street" are only a few of the notches on his belt.
