Unsettling, late-night downtempo grooves are Dan Berridge's stock-in-trade. His 2001 debut album, Compassion, drew comparisons to Radiohead's Kid A and Tom Waits, as well as DJ Shadow and Memphis Industries labelmate Blue States: there?Æs evidently little "chilling out" going on chez Broadway Project. For his second album, The Vessel, Berridge roped in the off-kilter vocal talents of Richard Palmer, fashioning a sultry series of twisted torch songs.
