Comprised of Motown natives Waajeed and Saadiq, the Platinum Pied Pipers are a production duo known for their headnod-inducing, soulful hip-hop vibe. Their early singles and compilation appearances won them gushing accolades from jaded journalists and hard-to-impress artists (?uestlove, Madlib) alike, leading to sold-out European shows before they even had an album out. They first came together around the millennium, meeting through Detroit crew Slum Village (who Waajeed helped start with Jay Dee back in the early nineties). With Waajeed's refined MPC skills and Saadiq's live musician background (he studied under Marvin Gaye cohort Barrett Strong), the two began producing for the German group ASD and Japan's DJ Mitsu. After several fruitful years behind the boards, they began touring internationally and wowing audiences with their unique-yet-familiar sound. They finally released the full-length Triple P in the summer of 2005.
