As the first-ever winner of American Idol, Clarkson won America over with her big, soulful voice and effervescent personality. Having successfully cleared that hurdle, Clarkson's next task will be proving she's more than a footnote in the history of Pop Culture. The singer's debut, the aptly-titled Thankful, goes a long way toward proving America chose correctly, as it showcases Clarkson's powerhouse vocals in a hip, contemporary manner -- something the show never really did. With a couple of hits already behind her ("A Moment Like This" and "Miss Independent"), Clarkson got off to a flying start. She released her sophomore effort, Breakaway, in November 2004. In the months that followed, Clarkson would dent the charts with such singles as "Breakaway," "Since U Been Gone" and "Behind These Hazel Eyes," erasing any lingering doubts as to her credibility as a bonafide pop star.
