When Jill Sobule's first album came out in 1990, she was ahead of the quirky, femme-pop curve and was quickly dropped by MCA. But by mid-decade when Tori, Jewel, and Alanis all hit the charts, she got another chance. Sobule rose to the occasion and charted with "I Kissed a Girl" and "Supermodel." Unlike her numerous peers, she knows how to mix some goofy fun in with the brooding introspection.
