Victims of the "Wipe Out" imbroglio, the Impacts' bulldozing guitar sound and three-armed drumming never earned them a hit, but their overdriven power-surf made them one of the meaner Surf acts around in the early '60s. The bare bones recording style of that period never sounded better to Lo-Fi freaks of today with shivering tremolos, skronking saxophone, and the ever-present stuttering drums all fighting it out for room on the mic. The result is a fuzzy, level-topping distortion that saturates everything and will put vintage Surf fans into an air guitar/drum reverie.
