| | An Australian garage rock band founded by a group of friends at a suburban Sydney high school during 1979. The two early members who've contributed to every era of The Celibate Rifles are the guitar duo of Kent Steedman and Dave Morris. "The band's energy, humour and disrespect for fashion mark the early Rifles as a true garage band in a sea of carports." Their first singer was , but by 1980/81 Ian had handed over vocal duties to Damien Lovelock (who would remain the band's lead singer until his death in August 2019).
The band's rhythm section varied somewhat over the years, with some players leaving then returning.
