Maria McKee comes from a musical family. Her brother was Brian MacLean, one of the founding members of the Los Angeles psychedelic band Love and the two siblings used to perform as a duo in her youth. Before going in the direction of her solo Americana recordings, McKee was the singer for 1980s roots rockers Lone Justice who were signed to Geffen on the strength of Linda Ronstadt?Æs praise. Her own music is actually more rooted in country-folk than the soulful Americana of her former band.
