Brigitte Fontaine is a French singer of avant-garde music, and she is also a novelist, playwright, poet and actress. She was born in 1939 in Morlaix in the Brittany region of France. During the course of her career she has employed numerous unusual musical styles, melding rock and roll, folk, free jazz, electronica, spoken word poetry and world rhythms.
