New York group looks good, writes catchy songs, and likes cool records. Every bit published about them mentions Iggy Pop, Lou Reed, and Tom Verlaine (including this one), and that's accurate with regards to sounds approximated and look achieved. Not that the Strokes are dangerous freaks with a genius ear, mind you -- they're just a no-nonsense rock band who like to write pop songs that boyfriends and girlfriends can both sing along to.
