The band was formed in February 1947, New York, NY, United States. Members have been Paul "Payo" Alicea (founder, guitar, bass, percussionist), (vocals), Paul Alicea (timbales), Frank Sanchez (guitar), (percussion) They are also known as Sexteto La Playa, The La Playa Sextet, The La Playa Orchestra. Do NOT confuse with La Plata Sextette (Seeco).
