Review
An appropriately exquisite ballad set from Matheny, who plays with space and melody à la Miles but employs a warm, inviting horn tone (exclusively on the flügelhorn). It says a lot that his originals, particularly "Whisper, Muse," stand up well next to the timeless standards. The sound of this session is so crisp and full it's hard to believe it's a live date.
