Review Marvin Sease had been performing his throwback to Sixties- and Seventies-style R&B for years when he scored an underground hit with "Candy Licker" a few years back. That salacious slice of bluesy soul tells of the singer's eagerness to go lingually with the ladies where many other brothers fear to tread: Let's euphemistically call that location the "Deep South." And while on the more explicitly stated title track to his newest album, A Woman Would Rather Be Licked, he continues to get his freak on, there's more to this record than tales of… Read More Sease's excursions to Lapland. On Licked, Sease is a man of contradictions. In one song he's being cheated on, while in another he's tomcattin' around himself. A third is titled "We're Still Together," while elsewhere he's disowning his baby's momma -- all in a voice that conjures up the ghost of soul music past but with much more chutzpah. (GAYLORD FIELDS)
