Formerly Cradle of Thorns, Videodrone have their Korn connections locked in place. Besides hailing from the same hometown as Korn (Bakersfield, Calif.) and being signed to Jonathan Davis's record label (Elementree), the band's self-titled debut is produced by Korn bassist Fieldy and features Davis as a guest lead vocalist on the single "Tie Jonathan Down." That said, while the musical similarities are there, Videodrone are not a Korn clone. Their style is less guitar-centric, relying more on Industrial/hip-hop rhythms and electronic textures. Topped by melodic vocals it expresses the sort of manic-depressive, MTV-friendly angst which is a defining element of nu-Metal. Time will tell if they have what it takes to truly contribute something to the Industrial Metal mainstream, or if they're simply in the right place at the right time.
