Released in 1996, the EFP's "Tried By 12" single was embraced by underground heads all over the East Coast. With it's minimal, Asian-sounding string loop and staccato, rim-shot beats, it was arguably one of the hottest instrumentals of the '90s. Topped with clever rhymes like "beef starts with a shove and ends with a shovel," and "I sign my name in the book at your funeral," the emcee drops knowledge about preferring the wrath of the court over the certainty of the bodybag. Unfortunately, despite mad props and excessive mix-tape exposure, they were never heard from again. These tracks are a collection of remixes from assorted producers and are on much more of a "future sound" vibe than the original, which is also included. Check out the new versions and the classic, which sounds just as fresh now as it did three years ago.
