Any serious fan of sample-based beats and diligent digging needs to hear Quasimoto. An other-worldly character who looks a bit like Alf, Quasimoto hails from the "lost gates." He released his first album, the heavily sweated The Unseen on Stones Throw Records in 2000. Flexing a bugged-out, tape manipulated, high-pitched rhyme style, Lord Quas sounds off on numerous important topics, namely good weed, shady girls, his love of jazz, and the importance of crate-digging. The album's production, provided by Madlib, is outstanding, flaunting an insane amount of frisky breakbeats, thick Funk, and mellow grooves.
