Maurice Jarre is one of the founders of modern film soundtrack composing. He became a household name with his scores for David Lean -- Lawrence of Arabia earned him an Oscar, as did Doctor Zhivago. He currently has a similar relationship with another maverick director, the Australian Peter Weir.
