A tunesmith in his own right, the Folk Implosion's John Davis kicks out mid-tempo rockers with his hushed, layered vocals, junky guitars and simple, pulsing beats. True to Lo-Fi production values, it sounds as if he's embedded a twenty-dollar microphone in sheet rock, leaned it up against a wall, and punched the record button (once).
