One of the great, unheralded American Hardcore bands, the Dicks began as a bunch of nihilistic Texas punks making chaotic noise with just the barest hints of blues peeking through. Their music took on a greater sense of purpose and force after they relocated to San Francisco. Powered by the commanding presence of singer Gary Floyd, the Dicks were angry and anthemic like most bands of their era, but their lyrics often had an extra layer of compassion. Notorious psychos in Austin, the S.F. model of the band was an incendiary live act that didn't need to resort to wild antics on stage to get noticed. Their songs hit you in the gut, shove your face to the sidewalk, and force you to deal with the grime.
