The Wedding Present were one of Britain's most loved indie bands of the 1990s, and with Cinerama, David Gedge ups their pop quotient even more with slick recastings of '60s styles. Critics have made a little too much of Cinerama's Lounge touches; they are a rock-based outfit that is closer to Parklife-era Blur or the Monochrome Set than to Burt Bacharach or John Barry. Va Va Voom, their debut album, is a real treat that puts a modern spin on the sounds of Swinging London.
