Rai -- Algerian pop-music -- is a fiery, melting-pot of traditional styles mixed with rock, reggae and funk into a percussive, political force. Cheba Fadela was one of the first to introduce it, and together with husband Cheb Sarhaoui she sings wavery exotic vocals over synthesizer-laden tracks bursting with syncopated drumming.
