Palmer was more eccentric than pundits thought. After getting a big, breakout FM hit with "Bad Case of Lovin' You," he greeted the 1980s with the new wave funk of "Looking For Clues," the synth-poppy "Johnny & Mary," and the art-school melancholy of "I Dream of Wires." Palmer was a shameless musical chameleon with an underrated, signature vocal style.
