Review After ten years in the hip-hop biz and four solo albums of adolescent acting-out, Redman shows no signs of growing up anytime soon. His new release might be his most sophomoric yet. All the Redman trademarks are here: the foul language ("Muh-F****," "Da Bullshit"), the crude manners ("Soopaman Luva 5") and enough unfunny, unforgivable skits like "Who Wants to F*** a Millionaire" to make every listening after the first an exercise in fast-forwarding. With the exception of the Rockwilder-produced first single, "Let's Get Dirty," Red's midtempo funk… Read More loops are mere backdrops, barely distinguishable from one another. As always, Red shows some daring assonance and clever pop-culture repurposing on songs like "Diggy Doc": "Animals attack, part four, people starin'/I'm not the type of Focker that'll go and meet your parents." On the Puffy-parodying "Whut I'ma Do Now," he also pokes at the Lox with "I need a hot girl, a ride-or-die chick/Mainly a hot chick ridin' Funk Doc dick." But even Redman's raunchy wit doesn't make Malpractice much more than music to watch Jackass to. NEIL DRUMMING (RS 871 - June 21, 2001)
