Aretha plus gospel -- it's almost an overdose of soul. Befitting her individualistic artistry, this is an atypical selection with "There Is a Fountain" and "Precious Lord" being the only common hymns. Franklin never delivers less than all her blood, sweat and tears; add the depths of gospel passion, and from the album's first note you know you're in for a ride.
