Astor Piazzolla's recordings can intimidate the uninitiated, but this 1957 album is one of the cuddliest around (despite sometimes poor sound quality). The strings saturate the sound with a kind of '40s film romance, while Piazzolla's bandoneon sustains that romantic -- nearly French -- vibe. Add some Jim Hall-esque jazz guitar, and you're in business.
