Review
Coming out of the ashes of great, unsung groups like Opal and Rain Parade, Mazzy Star's debut is a riveting mixture of Hope Sandoval's lost vocals and Dave Roback's darkly psychedelic guitar. Not as dreamy as later records, this has a rougher element that is equal parts crunchy Velvets-style pop and desolate folk blues.
