| | Chicago's award-winning premier lyrics music and spoken word group,Street Sounds is a performance ensemble of music, songs and lyrics that was founded in 1971 by poet David Hernandez and guitarist Dean Karabatsos. A few months later guitarist Francisco Gonzalez joined the group along with percussionist Gustavo Pena.
The group uses original music and lyrics with Latin Jazz, Blues, Contemporary Jazz, Afro-Caribbean, Folk, Classical and Cover tune elements. The group has, now, grown to a nine-piece ensemble composed of a female vocalist, upright bass, three percussionists, reeds player and acoustic guitars. Along with the original quartet, these seasoned musicians are Ana Santos-Sanchez (Vocals), Todd Hill (Bass), Wilfredo "Papo" Lopez and Isabelino "Silo" Landor.
