Cisco Houston's tenor-to-baritone voice sang folk songs that became anthems for America's working class, ranch hands, and hobos. These songs eventually found their way into the young and politically active folk revival enthusiasts trying to change the world in the late 1950s and early '60s. Besides recording his own material (which consisted of traditional standards and self-penned ditties), Houston sang backing harmonies on some of Woody Guthrie's earliest recordings for the Folkways label.
