Started as a folk musician then turned to jazz and ultimately to disco - pop - soul genre when Barry Gibb spotted her at a club and impressed by her voice he wrote "Ain't Nothing Gonna Keep Me From You" that was to become her first hit single.
Her biggest hit was "Yes, I'm Ready" with KC of the KC & The Sunshine Band.
After three pop/soul/disco albums at she turned to Christian music, releasing two mid 80's albums in this genre at gaining her sole Grammy nomination in 1986 for Best Female Performance in the gospel category.
