| Congolese soukous band, formed in Kinshasa, D.R. Congo on December 24, 1969. Signed to many record labels during the 1970-80s, including Editions Veve. Since 1982 they had their own label, Prozal.
The lineup (1984–1988) comprised N'Yoka Longo, Dindo Yogo, J.P. Buse, Lengi Lenga, Bimi Ombale and Gilbert Benamayi on vocals. Nono Monzuluku and Bébe Atalaku on shaker, animation. Popolipo, Jimmy Yaba, Petit Poisson, Matima Mpiosso, Oncle Bapius (bass) and Yvon Kabamba (bass) on guitars. José Lema on synthesizer. Meridjo Belobi and Bakunde Ilo Pablo on drums. Djerba Mandjeku on congas. Drummer Petit Cachet (formerly a member from 1980-81) made a short stint in 1985.
In 2000, the group was voted best orchestra of the century in modern Congolese music by the Congolese Media Association. |
