MONTY ALEXANDER Vinyl Records and CDs

monty alexander

Kingston-born Monty Alexander came to New York in the early '60s, inspired by the Calypso music of home and the fluidity of jazz pianist Oscar Peterson. An exciting Bop pianist, he became known for his speed and grace; and his compelling live performances were best witnessed in trio form. After a period as Milt Jackson's sideman, Alexander began incorporating his lively West Indian roots into his music. Later records saw him adding steel drums for a more swinging Caribbean flavor.
