An alumnus of Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers, Donald Brown's music combines firm roots in blues and Hard Bop with dashes of R&B and Gospel. He's been known to arrange pop standards, such as "Killing Me Softly," for jazz quartet. A lyricist as well as an instrumentalist, Brown's latest work features singer Harold Mabern.
