| | Bobby Rodríguez y la Compañía is an orchestra formed in 1974. Robert "Bobby" Rodríguez served as it's Director, and also played the saxophone, the transverse flute, the clarinet and the piano. The group worked in different sites of the salsa scene of the city of New York for the 70s. From the beginning, the style of the orchestra - although firmly rooted in the Latin tradition - was strongly influenced by jazz, soul and funk; also that his repertoire included lyrics in English. Bobby Rodríguez and La Compañía, was one of the prominent bands that played on Monday nights at the famous Salsa Meets Jazz at the Village Gate. Several of his songs were recognized in the salsa field, such as: Sonero del Barrio, Angelina, Latin From Manhattan, and so forth. |
