Notes Featuring 7 non-LP Band Of Blacky Ranchette tracks. Included are songs from Giant Sand's 1st & 2nd LP, [m=107281] and [m=289232] ...and songs from the by The Band Of Blacky Ranchette, as well as the second one by Blacky, Heartland.
"Wishing Well" - Recorded in the big room during the Thin Line Man session. Live. Was only released on a Bucketfull Of Brains flexi from a rough cassette mix. Baby-O studio, Hollywood. 1986, I think... "Tumble & Tear" - Almost live to 8-trk... from the Valley Of Rain L.P... a song about an accident that happened way later in Georgia. Control Center studio, Hollywood, 1984. "Reptillian" - If Repunzal (?) landed in Tucson, this would be her story. Done live in a London studio with backing vocals and second guitar added much later at the Control studio. London 1986, West-3 studio. "Hard Man To Get To Know" - Re-mixed version from Thin Line Man night. Piano added in Reno... otherwise, live with previously cut guitar solo banter left in this time. Baby-O, 1986. This is probably for Hector. "Black Venetian Blind (Book II)" - The soul version. It desperately needed girl singers. Oh well. I hear them anyway. Live, London, West-3, 1986. "Thin Line Man" - Re-mixed version. We intended it to last a whole side... just like the double albums of the seventies with all those introspective studio shots on the inner fold. In fact the whole Thin Line Man session was an exorcism of the seventies. Baby-O 1986, Hollywood, live. "Artists" - Done way back before Valley Of Rain in Tucson to 8-trk. Later, bass and snare added. I still like this one alot, but i forget how to play it. Tucson, Sound Factory studio, 1983-4. "What You Hate" - Same trip as the other two London tracks. A reckless jab at self inflicted stab... maybe. London, live, West-3. '86. "October Anywhere" - I love this take. i forget this one too. Valley Of Rain session. Control Cen
