The Lost Recordings found the master tapes of this double recital in the Berlin radio archives. How can one not be transported by this concert, which delivers a previously unreleased version of tracks from the legendary 1964 Verve album? The label is offering the world premiere of this concert, recorded at the Berlin Philharmonic as part of the 1966 Berliner Jazztage. The 19 tracks of this now unforgettable concert are added to the collection with, as always, unequalled sound quality, thanks to the Phoenix Mastering® process.

The concert given by Stan Getz's quartet accompanied by Astrud Gilberto on 4 November 1966 is in a way out of sync. In those crazy years when everything was rushing ahead, things had indeed changed in the lives and careers of the two main protagonists who, after a fleeting romance, had each regained their personal and artistic independence.

From the very first bars of Jobim's Samba de uma Nota Só, the magic of the reunion takes place!

As if time had stood still, the hesitant delicacy of Astrud's white voice, set in the misty, iridescent tones of Gary Burton's vibraphone and magnified by the aerial counterpoints of Stan Getz's saxophone, recaptures the freshness and innocence of the mythical 64 recording.Unfolding the seductions of their poetic universe in a cleverly composed suite of bossa nova standards (Gilberto Gil's Você e eu, Jobim's Corcovado and The Girl from Ipanema) mixed with a few compositions that are more "jazz" in form and spirit (Bob Brookmeyer's Jive Hoot, the sentimental standards The Shadow of your Smile and It Might As Well Be Spring), Astrud Gilberto and Stan Getz, with modesty, delicacy and a communicative joy of playing, constantly manage to avoid giving the impression of going back on their steps - "giving substance" in the present and as if for the first time, to this sensual, light and melancholic music, the fruit of their mixed race love.
