The music and production encountered here represents a cross-section of Sumatran FM radio and to a greater extent, whats happening now in Indonesian culture. From the signature sounds of Sumatra (Melayu, Minang Pop, the Batak ballad) to the widespread Indonesian phenomenon of Dangdut, this exclusive FM only Radio Collage will leave your skull shattered, wondering why its taken so long to be turned-on to the modern pulse of the worlds fourth largest country. Some of these selections come from Java and other parts of Indonesia via the FM airwaves of Sumatras major cities. Islamic Folk, Gambus Rock, and gorgeous anomalies are also placed in the mix amidst brief news reports, advertisements, prayers, and karaoke call-in shows. Many of the station IDs could be mistaken for American or European networks and much of the music is highly influenced by western pop/rock/punk/metal/rap/etc. But beyond these obvious comparisons is an explosive musical kaleidoscope; still fresh, somewhat sincere and naive, and a bit resistant to the grasp of the worlds cultural export Moguls. This is an essential listening experience. There is undeniable evidence here of how Indonesians have crafted some of the worlds most thrilling popular music....yet the rest of this world somehow refuses to recognize it....that is, until now! (Recorded, assembled and edited by Alan Bishop/ 2004). - Sublime Frequencies.
Grading: Our grading system is sleeve/vinyl using the following scale: M (perfect - hardly touched by human hands. vinyl never played. flawless cover or picture sleeve) M- (nearly perfect. vinyl may have been played though there's no evidence as such, cover or picture sleeve would be nearly perfect - touched by human hands) NM (very carefully handled. may be trace evidence of previous ownership/play. really nice) EX (light amount of wear.. might be light and inaudible scuff or two, evidence of previous ownership) VG+ ( average wear.. might be ring wear, slightly audible vinyl problems, slight seam splitting, stains or discoloration) VG (moderate and easily noticeable wear but still plays through and isn't totally unpresentable. might have any or several of the problems above to a slightly greater degree) VG- (slightly worse than vg..people who care about condition should avoid from records graded vg-) G+ (slightly worse than vg-..people who care about condition should stay away from records graded G+) G (guaranteed to play through, though it's not recommended to be played on a quality turntable. vinyl would be scratched/warped or otherwise messed up. covers would be significantly damaged in some way. people who care about condition should stay away from records graded G). We are fairly conservative graders. If you have any questions about what to expect with a given grade please ask. All records are graded aurally and using 20/20 vision. Furthermore, the hounds give everything a thorough sniffing to weed out possible boots, counterfeits, and innocent fugitives. If no grade is given for the cover or picture sleeve this means that the record never came with one. If the record is missing the sleeve then we will let you know in our notes or mention a photocopy of the p.s. that we have provided (unless the majority of the press was released sleeveless).
