Notes
Instrumental Selections From My Fair Lady By Richard Hayman And His Orchestra

From the reverse:
"Every generation, it seems, has its great Broadway musical to remember. Our generation has been amply supplied with several. The most talked about musical today, is the hit of the Great White Way, "My Fair Lady". Critics of music and drama both have been unanimous in their praise for this adaptation of the George Bernard Shaw classic, "Pygmalion", and the New York Times even went so far as to say, "My Fair Lady" is one of the best musicals of the century".

Not the least of the successful ingredients in this "sold-out" show is the music. Mercury Records has captured the important musical plot with this dynamic presentation thru the masterful performance of Richard Hayman. Presented here are the same numbers from the Broadway hit, complete with all the freshness and sparkle of Richard Hayman's musical adeptness, all done up in a style adopted especially for listening. Richard Hayman has long been acclaimed for his abilities and his successful recording background. This package presents the master in a new and lustrous performance.

"My Fair Lady" opened at the Shubert theater in New Haven, for its pre-Broadway run on February 4, 1956, at the Erlanger theater in Philadelphia on February 15, and at the Mark Hellinger in New York on March 15. Since then, the 1,550 seats of the theater have been filled every night by eager and thankful show-goers who regale over the sumptuous settings, the delightful costumes, and the music itself, which has more than just a dash of humor.

So closely are the songs interwoven with the plot of this comedy that even those who may be unfamiliar with the story can get an approximation of the story by following the song titles. The play follows the Shaw version very closely with only one exception - the Tea Party scene takes place in a box at the Ascot Races in the play. The story itself deals with the transformation of an awkward Cockney flower
