Every banda probably calls itself "La Reina De Las Bandas" -- in Banda El Recodo's case, it's justified; in Banda Machos's case, it isn't. But that's not to say the group hasn't been influential: formed in Jalisco in 1990, the group started out playing traditional banda, culling songs from well-known composers like Jose Alfredo Jimenez and Consuelo Velasquez, but they also helped to nurture newer talents like Ivan Diaz and Genaro Cardenas. Perhaps their biggest contribution has been popularizing techno-banda, which is pretty much what it sounds like.
