Thundra was formed as a project between Harald Helgeson (ex- Enslaved), Stein Sund (ex-Einherjer) and Nils (synth) in 1998. When Harald and Stein left their former bands, Thundra recruited Rune Fredriksen (on guitar), Steven Grindhaug (on vocals) and Thor Erik Helgesen (guitar and vocals) to complete the band.
Thundra released the well-reviewed album [m=471051] on Spinefarm records in 2000.
In 2006 they released their 2nd album [m=548807]. After releasing the band did some touring, festivals and concerts, plus a contribution for a... Read More ... compilation album issued by Karmøygeddon Metal Festival before they started working on new material.
At the end of the summer of 2008 Thor Erik Helgesen decided to leave Thundra to be able to focus on his family, and to put his main musical focus on his brainchild Throne Of Katarsis.
In 2009 the band released their 3rd album [m=471052].
Since the band wanted two guitars in the band, Ruben Osnes got hired in to do some session guitars for the upcoming tour. Ruben turned out to be a great addition to Thundra and was later incorporated as a full time member.
In 2013 they released their final album [m=961534].
The band split-up in February 2015.
