Two Minds Crack was formed in Port Talbot, Wales in 1980 by (vocals and guitar) and (guitar and keyboards). In 1981, they recorded a demo tape, produced by , and upon its release that October, it got a positive review in the pages of , who included "The Sense That Never Sleeps" on a compilation LP of upcoming artists the next year. Two more tracks from the demo were featured on a similar compilation released by the same year.
After recruiting (bass and guitar), the band moved to London in 1983 and picked up (drums). They were the first act signed to the label, who released their first two singles in 1984: "The Hunger and the Greed" (produced by ) was popular in Spain and Italy; and "Enemies of Promise" (produced by ) did well throughout Europe. Citing poor managerial decisions, Hurding left the band and was not replaced, leaving the original members to present as a trio.
In early 1985, they signed a new deal with the American label , and started working with producer and sound engineer . Their album, The Victory Parade, was released worldwide in 1986, and contained new recordings of many previously released tracks, including a radically reworked version of "The Hunger and the Greed". In the US, the video for "Cry Cry Cry... Read More ... (featuring session drummer ) was shown a few times on MTV, and the single peaked at #45 on the Hot Dance Music/Maxi-Singles Sales chart; meanwhile, "Upside Down" was very popular in the Philippines, and remains so to this day. Although plans were made to begin recording their second album, Sire dropped them, and the band broke up shortly thereafter.
In 2012, Two Minds Crack - now down to the original duo of Jones and Martin once again - released a digital EP called On Top of the World.
