| The Toronto band Gitar started as a collaborative project between Mikhail Galkin, who had released the critically acclaimed “One Day” LP on Tres Records as DJ Alibi, and Tai Lee, a guitarist and member of rock outfits The Best and The Nordiques. With a friendship and musical partnership going back to high school (having played in a band called Achoy and helping each other on various musical projects), Tai and Mikhail started making songs together in 2008, borrowing inspiration from everything from Lee Scratch Perry and The Clash to Cypress Hill. With production handled by Mikhail and guitar work by Tai, both members began sharing song writing duties. In 2009, the two decided to invite a drummer in and form an actual band. Dan Rios, a Toronto drummer with a formal jazz background was a friend of Mikhail’s and after sitting in on one jam session, Gitar was fully formed. Darrell Simpson was later added to the live line-up, playing rhythm guitar and percussion.
In 2013, Fuzzed out guitars, heavy drums and lush production dominate the sound of the new record, currently nearing completion. Experimental, yet rooted in Mikhail and Tai’s musical backgrounds, the new LP is scheduled to come out in mid 2013. -http://pl70.net/artists/gitar/
