James Gregory was born in the small town of Lithonia, Georgia, and was immediately baptized into the religion of Strong Work Ethics. Case in point: At the age of 10, Gregory worked 37 hours a week at the local grocery store to help support his family. And while that might not have been the most idyllic situation for a youngster, it certainly provided him with plenty of opportunities to test his mettle. Gradually, Gregory found his persuasive storytelling talents to be the perfect vehicle for making a sale, and made a good, hard-earned living as a salesman. In 1982, at the age of 35, Gregory was persuaded by his friends to go onstage at an open mic night. His "front porch stories" had the Atlanta crowd in stitches and a new career was born. Gregory applied the same stringent work ethic to comedy, touring the country 48 weeks of the year, which put his whimsical reflections on life and the world in front of a vast audience. Eventually, he eked out the sort of dedicated, grass roots following usually reserved for bands. His successful brand of "poking fun of everyone" humor led to syndicated radio spots across the country. Additionally, Gregory is an in-demand corporate speaker, having entertained the likes of employees of Coca-Cola, Kimberly-Clark and the American Red Cross.
