Founded in the summer of 1995 by Jon Carter, this one-man project is what you get when you breed Jamaican dancehall, breakbeat, drum 'n' bass and ragga: a brash bastard that must be the center of the dancefloor. Sadly, Monkey Mafia didn't get much farther than 1998's long-awaited debut, Shoot The Boss. By then, Carter had established himself as a DJ under his own name (or as Junior Cartier) and had a regular gig at the legendary Heavenly Social in London, where the Chemical Brothers also got their start.
