Grading My Grading is displayed as follows: VINYL / JACKET (e.g. VG+ / VG) Please note: I distinguish between two important terms—scuffs and scratches. • Scuffs are generally caused by a record’s paper sleeve and by normal human contact with a record. Considering records were inserted by hand at the factory, it’s conceivable a still-sealed record may have scuffs. Scuffs DO affect sound quality, although minimally. • Scratches, on the other hand, are beneath the surface of the record, cause disturbing noise when playing, and seriously detract from a record’s value. SS (Still Sealed) - these records are still factory sealed. I’ll assume them to be unplayed, but am unable to verify this unless you grant me permission to open the shrinkwrap before shipping. M (Mint) – like new with only one or two insignificant scuffs. A GEM! NM (Near Mint) Vinyl – a beautiful record with its original luster. It may have a few minor surface scuffs that should not significantly affect play. NM (Near Mint) covers should still be close to perfect with minimal signs of age or wear in evidence. Unless stated otherwise, NM covers generally do not have cut-outs, holes, or clipped corners. VG+ (Very Good Plus) Vinyl – a gently used record that may have a series of light scuffs or surface marks that, while causing a few minor pops (especially between tracks), has no serious problems. VG+ (Very Good Plus) covers have more visible signs of wear (i.e., slight ring wear, lightly turned-up corners and/or denting, etc.). No distracting writing, non-factory labels, or split seams impair the jacket’s appearance. A VG+ cover may have a cutout hole, indentation, or corner indicating it was taken out of print and sold at a discount. VG Vinyl – a well-used record that may have moderate surface noise, pops, etc. but plays through just fine. VG Covers will look worn, used. There may be some seam splitting (but not completely separated!). There will be some ring wear, where the ink has begun to wear off. There may be some minor writing or blemishes on the cover but not damaging to the point of losing its attractiveness; otherwise, it will not make this grade. G Vinyl – will play through but with notable surface noises, pops, crackles, etc. Generally a good record has no warps or cracks that will interfere with its ability to play through. F and P – these grades apply to records that were probably used as coasters or Frisbees throughout their well-loved lives. Better to own ‘em than to play ‘em. Return Policy

I'm breaking up a record collection that was 50 years in the making. This is my 13th year operating an online vinyl store. I enjoy communicating with potential buyers, making sure what I'm offering is what they're expecting. Most of my LP's have been play-graded because I really enjoy listening while I'm working. I'll occasionally mention a play-grade in my notes when it may assure a potential buyer that a less than desirable grading will still be worth the asking price. I've become pretty conservative about the differences between a VG record and one that's excellent.
