Store Information
Seller Information This is not my full-time business, so I aim to ship within 3-4 days of receiving payment. I do sometimes travel for work and my wife doesn't deal with Musicstack, but if the wait is likely to be longer I will let you know and you may cancel any order if you can't wait for the item. Due to their refund policies, we reserve the right to add to any order paid for by PayPal that exceeds £20 GBP in value a charge for a tracked shipping method, which will add 1.20p to UK orders and £6.50 for orders sent abroad, including the EU. This charge will only be applied if you have low or no feedback and are buying an expensive item. Most regular MusicStackers will not be asked to pay this - loyalty brings rewards ! Unfortunately some packages go missing, and they are apparently more likely to go missing in some countries than others. If you are buying from one of the following countries and have little or no prior history of buying on Musicstack then we reserve the right to add the signed-for service described above to the shipping cost for your order. If you want to reduce the likelihood of my applying this charge then get yourself a confirmed PayPal address. I am sorry about this but have to insist. At present the countries affected are: Brazil, Mexico, Russia, Italy. Shipping options include the cost of new 12" envelope mailers or 7" Mail-Lite envelopes and two stiffeners (7-inch may use re-cycled stiffeners) and items are posted using the services noted, fully marked and annotated with 'Fragile' and 'Do No Bend'. Albums are normally removed from sleeves if the record is travelling outside the UK. If you require any other type of packing, please specify before paying the final amount as cruciform mailers (which don't offer any better protection) and additional stiffeners and layers cost money to provide and weight to post. My items are well packed and very rarely suffer damage in transit unless the postman tries to bend them. The advertised rates are good for the numbers of records stated. Larger shipments will be weighed and the postage costed from the Royal Mail website with a nominal charge (less than 1 GBP) for materials and then 10% added to offset the Musicstack and PayPal commissions which they also charge on shipping. I have to do this, otherwise the commission element means I am almost giving away some records for free! If there are more records in the pack than a standard mailer will hold then I will make a custom pack for the records. If you require additional packing or insurance for your shipment, then I can provide this (beware, insurance means DHL or UPS for the USA as USPS do not accept any liability), just put the details in your notes and I will acknowledge with a shipping price by return. Grading
Grading My philosophy is always to try to give the customer value for money as far as the condition of the disk is concerned, tinged of course by my own prejudices about what is and what is not good music. The main thing which may cause gradings to cross from one category to another is the lighting conditions in the room, because although almost all discs are audibly graded by me, everyone always looks at it in the end to try to see how it will play. Broadly, the following definitions apply and are based on UK Record Collector standard gradings with wording modified to reflect how (in my many years of experience) the collecting market normally assesses saleable items. UNP : A disc which is unplayed, i.e. as you would buy it over the counter. This does not imply that it is audibly faultless (particularly with Jamaican pressings), but it is NEW. MINT : As new with no signs of handling other than those that might have ocurred prior to initial sale in a store. Very fine surface marks or prints may be denoted by addition of - mark or MINUS. EX : Excellent : Played, possibly often, but generally very well looked after and kept in a cover. Some faint marks, but with no significant audible degradation. VG : Very Good : A played record in average condition. Your idea of average and mine may be different, but the record is listenable without significant repetitive disturbance and with very low background noise. Some marks will certainly be visible on the surface. I consider VG- to be about the limit for public playout, although I have heard many systems play worse ! G : Good : Enough to listen to at least. When you hear this, there's no doubt that it's on vinyl, but the music still comes through loud and clear. My personal limit on what I will put on tape for the car. This disc may actually look quite rough, but it plays. F : Fair : A nice record to have, but does have some annoying defect which makes you cringe as it passes - if only you could find a good copy ! This will do until that miraculous moment. Plus and minus signs may be added to generally confuse the issue, or more likely to provide justification for the price being asked. We hope that the record is in the condition you expect bearing in mind the price you are paying, the grading shown and the demand for the music. Further notations will be added as required, and are as commonly used within the record collecting fraternity. noc : No original centre for a 45. (s)wol/c : (Slight) Writing on label/cover. ew(nap) : Edge warp (not affecting play). pic : Picture cover on a 45. re : Re-issue (where known) sol/c : Sticker on label/cover. tri : Triangular centre issue where round centres were issued later.
Record Collector's Grading System
MINT: The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.
------------------------------------------------------------
EXCELLENT: The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.
------------------------------------------------------------
VERY GOOD: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.
------------------------------------------------------------
GOOD: The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discoloration, etc.
------------------------------------------------------------
FAIR: The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump.
The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced.
------------------------------------------------------------
POOR: The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.
------------------------------------------------------------
BAD: The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler.
------------------------------------------------------------
CDs & CASSETTES: As a general rule, CDs and cassettes either play perfectly - in which case they are in Mint condition - or they don't, in which case their value is minimal. Cassette tape is liable to deteriorate with age, even if it remains unplayed, so care should be taken when buying old tapes. CDs are difficult to grade visually: they can look perfect but actually be faulty, while in other cases they may appear damaged but still play perfectly. Cassette and
CD inlays and booklets should be graded in the same way as record covers and sleeves. In general, the plastic containers for cassettes and CDs can easily be replaced if they are broken or scratched, but card covers and digipaks are subject to the same wear as record sleeves
