| | From Erie, PA local musician Tom Weber: "Martin O'Connor is a longtime local musician in Erie, PA who is originally from Wellsville, NY. He and his childhood buddy Fred McCarthy were known as Marty & Fred in the folk era. They were students of an acclaimed classical guitarist from Rochester, NY. They moved to Boston to attend the New England Conservatory of Music, where they formed the Frederick Martin Band and toured a lot (including Erie, PA in the late 70s). They moved to Erie, PA but Fred McCarthy left for the West Coast after the band split up. Marty had various bands, Jabberwocky and the Garage Band, and then did a longstanding weekly gig at Maxi's Cafe at the Belair/Clarion Hotel. Martin is no longer active as a musician. Fred is active as a singer-songwriter in California, possibly Santa Barbara." |
