Tejano singer Chelo Silva was renowned for her boleros and her defiant attitude. Though she reportedly began performing in the late 1930s (with then-husband Americo Paredes), Silva made her first recording in 1954 for Discos Falcon. Her fam! e grew in the late '50s and established her as one of Tejano's primary stars. She died in 1988.
